Hello, listmates!  I'm sorry this took so long to summarize, but I went on vacation to the Black Hills and I wanted to see if any other answers came in to my question to whether Smirnoff Ice is GF or not.

Here are the results:

2 people said it doesn't make them sick
Another says they would consider it safe
1 person says absolutely not because it is a glutenous grain, despite it being distilled
1 person said the AFT and the FDA have different regulations and why buy something that may or may not be GF when we can support the GF companies (thanks Bev - you are so right)
1 person said that the malt drinks have gluten in them, but he drinks Bud Lite and Bush Lite with no problems.  "In 1997 I called Anheisur-Busch and asked them to make a g/f beer such as Bud Lite. This is a direct quote by the spokesman:
"Our beer's primary ingredient is rice and the malt flavoring that is used in brewing is turned into amino acids and our scientists have been unable to detect any gluten in the finishd product.  Check with your doctor or the CSA before drinking."

Those were my responses, not many people wrote in, but I think I'll stay on the safe side and continue with my wine and the Woodchuck brand of hard ciders (which are very tasty and say "Naturally Gluten Free" right on the bottle and box.  I guess it's up to everyone individually on what they want to consider safe.  I am always a little confused about alcohol, because of the lack of decent ingredient listing and not really being a big alcohol drinker (just like to have a little in the summer when it's hot).  I wish more companies would come out with a GF drink that's flavored like the Smirnoff Ice and Mike's Hard Lemonade.

Cheers, everyone!
