I just recently started an internet account and found this
group while surfing on the WWW in the last week.

Can any of the list members enlighten me on Dermatitis
Herpetiformis? I have had, for many years now, a problem
with itchy scalp forming scabs as well as in the last few
(5-10) years a red itchy condition on my face that could
only be controlled using cortisone cream. I recently,
since November last year, started reading the postings on
the Prodigy Service Health BB and became convinced that I
must change my diet. For the last 6-8 weeks I have cut out
ALL sugars, refined carbohydrates, caffeine, alcohol of any
kind, and even fresh fruits for the next 3-6 months to try
to get the nutrients back in balance in my body. It seems
to have done some good as I feel a good deal better than I
had. I have really calmed down, no longer so hyper as I
had been and able to take problems without blowing up.
Probably due to the fact of no caffeine I am guessing.

I have noticed that even on this diet that after the
ingestion of my home ground and baked whole wheat bread
that if I burp it has an acid feel to it. This was a
big problem before I started this food regimen and would
even wake me up at night with a burning stomach. I no
longer have this great a problem, only the slight acidity
I mentioned. In the last week I found this group of celiac
folks and am now wondering if this may be the cause of the
acid gas I have been having on the 'whole food' diet I am
using. Could it be celiac caused DH that I have had all along?
I am just finding out about this disease and could use some
input from you folks. I started, about 3-4 days ago to
restrict my grain input to only rice and corn and have
noticed some gas but no burning acid feel to it.

Another thing that I have read, on this list I believe, is
that celiac can either cause or irritate a condition I now
know as 'peripheral neuropathy'. I have had a numbness and
tingling in my feet for the last several years and had
blamed it on the fungus I had in my toenails. But, after
taking nizoral for 6-8 months (I had to stop as it was
causing internal problems) it did not change the feeling
in my feet at all. They seem to have proper circulation and
are warm, never feel cold under warm conditions, so it must
not be due to a circulation problem and I am now wondering
if it could be celiac caused peripheral neuropathy.

Does anyone have any comments that may further enlighten
me?

Thanks.
