Thanks to all that replied to my posting! Here is the info I received
from everyone:

- dates are in season now ...they are alkaline instead of acid producing
and eating one is like eating sugar....a possible snack to satisfy your
sweet tooth... be sure they are not dusted with anything...sometimes
they are rolled in coconut...the health food store has them.....You can
buy a big tub at Costco.

- As for the dairy status of these I don't know but the following are
gluten-free as of September (when I was diagnosed) Snickers (almond,
regularmunch and the ice cream bar), m&ms excepted for crispy, 3
musketeer, Milky Way (midnight and carmals), Skittles, Starbursts, and
all Dove candies and Ice cream except for the cookies and cream.
Hersey's Kisses, herseys milk chocolate bar and with almonds, jolly
ranchers, Tasetatations hard candy, and Hersey's classic candy I did not
get a responce from Nestle or Reeses that I can remember so I do not eat
them.

- Newman's Own makes a dark chocolate with orange small candy bar that
is GFCF. Also the box of After Eight dinner mints by Nestle's are GFCF.
Most gummi bears and gummi worms are GFCF but check the label

- try jelly beans

- For a quick and dirty chocolate fix I melt some chocolate chips and
dip fruit in it (or spread it on GF crackers). I'm sure there are GF
chocolates out there too, but none of them taste as good to me as melted
chocolate chips. You can also mix them up with nuts, or dried fruit and
nuts, or coconut, and make little candies. You can melt the chips in the
microwave if you are careful. I also mix coconut oil with cocoa, nuts,
coconut, dried fruit, and maple syrup, put it in candy cups and freeze
it. Most people I've given it to think it is expensive chocolate, and I
like it better than the commercial stuff. Coconut oil you can buy mail
order.

- I would suggest you to ask your questions at this other excellent
site: http://forums.delphiforums.com/celiac/messages
There are very kind & knowledgeable people there, among them
doctors, to answer your questions.
There also is a GF product list, updated regularly.

- Do the NECCO conversation hearts have dairy? They're GF.

- Dove's Promises are what I can eat and I'm GF and dairy free.

- dark chocolate has butter fat added to keep the cocoa butter from
crystallizing, forming the harmless but unappetizing grayish coating
that results from improper storage.chocolatiers buy their chocolate. you
could eat Rapunzel, but it is "different" I recommend Ithaca Fine
Chocolates:

- Go to Celiac.com and look up Gluten-Free Candies. They've got a huge
list with candies ranging from m&m's (not crispy) to blow-pops to junior
mints. Check it out. You can still eat a lot of differents candies.

- make your own...there are recipes on the internet

All are very good ideas. Thanks again!
