Friends,
For four months now, I've had an ordeal with sciatica on the R side. It
presented after a slight fall on L. knee, barely scraping it. I've had
chiropractic, muscle stim, ultra sound, and 14 treatments on their traction
machine, all to no avail. I take Darvocet for pain episodes, which are now
frequent. I cannot take anti-inflammatories because of my stomach, and
cannot take any herbals due to their oxalate content. My MD has given me
some lydocaine patches and Lyrica, a nerve pain blocker. One pill in the
evening is no problem except for sleepiness in the a.m., but to increase as
he wants me too, just leaves me drugged. I took 2 yesterday, out of
desperation and spent most of the day in bed.

I've had two steroid shots in the last 10-12 years, and swore I'd never do
another one. They do not help and actually increase the pain.
I've done acupuncture in the past, although not for this type problem, so am
thinking about re-visiting that.

Additional exercise at this point is too painful, although when I'm
"drugged", I do try some stretches, but usually pay afterward. I've also
done hot baths with epsom salts & soda, and ice to the area which helps
temporarily.

Can anyone suggest anything else?

Thanks,
JJ
