Hi listmembers,

I called Safeway this morning to ask some questions about items
that are on the gluten free list they sent me. The items I
questioned were minestrone soup, home run pies and jumbo ice
cream sandwiches. None of them are gluten free.

In the course of our conversation, the person I talked to admitted
that his supervisor said they "don't really understand what makes a
product gluten free." I explained what they needed to look for and
suggested that they contact one of the celiac associations for help
in developing a good list. He asked me for contact info which I
provided. I'm glad they took the problem seriously and seem willing
to learn -- but I think we need to question all items on their current
list.

Best wishes,
Lani K. Thompson
