My daughter, then 13, was given cipro for an ear infection after a flu went
thru her friends. She had VIOLENT uncontrollable vomiting after each pill
(she
only had 3 until I took her off the pills). She had been gradually
developing
celiac signs which we had not recognized yet, but after this pill she was
flat out for a
couple of weeks, could hardly eat and the celiac symptoms were dramatically
worse.

My mother, who is not generally an allergic person, 81, a 54 year smoker who
is healthier than I am at 49, took cipro for cellulitis of her leg, which
was cultured to
be pseudomonas, a very nasty bug that is sensitive to Cipro.
It did clear up her leg infection when two other antibiotics could not and
maybe saved her leg, but she had unbearable uncontrollable itching all over
her legs
Even though she took benadryl and quit the cipro, it took probably a couple
of
weeks until all the itching went away. She scratched herself until she was
almost raw.

If you put "Cipro reaction" into Google you will will find a website devoted
to cipro other fluoroquinolone reactions that will make your hair stand on
end.
I think Dr. Mercola has some articles on cipro problems too on
www.mercola.com.

This is an effective drug for an infection that tests sensitive to it and
can be
life saving, but maybe should be saved for these situations like my mother
where
nothing else would work.
