Does anyone know what is the "official" recommendation from the medical community about testing of children who have a parent with celiac disease? I have celiac disease, as do many members of my immediate family. Neither of my 2 children have "classic" symptoms of celiac disease, but of course, being a parent who lived with undiagnosed celiac for 42 years, I can see things in my children that could possibly indicate a problem but wouldn't be on a doctor's radar. My 11 year old son had his yearly physical today, and when I asked the doctor if he could please run the celiac panel since he was taking blood anyway, his response was that he would gladly do it, but he thinks it's unnecessary since he has no symptoms. When my daughter had her physical in January, we had a different pediatrician in the group who agreed with me that my children should be tested yearly. Any thoughts?
