At the CSA conference in October, I learned some exciting news: The
possibility of developing a personal "dipstick" to test foods for gluten --
at home or even in a restaurant. We celiacs all need to know about this
project and participate in this research to get the dipstick out into the
market as soon as possible. A lot of research money is needed, however. The
following is what CSA is mentioning.

For years, CSA has been seeking a simple, accurate, inexpensive,
reusable method for detecting "gluten" in foods. This method could be used
by those with celiac disease and beyond.

At last, CSA has located some companies specializing in the
development of rapid detection of biological and chemical targets who is
interested in working with CSA to develop a device ("dipstick") that could
accurately detect and quantify gluten in food. This project is projected to
be funded exclusively through CSA donations for the benefit of the entire
celiac community.

Donations designated for the development of this measuring device may
be sent to: CSA, PO Box 31700, Omaha, NE 68131-0700.
