1) Go Picnic Gluten free on the go small boxed meals. Needs no refrigeration. Easy to transport. Each small box comes with 2 hummus and crackers ready to eat meals and 2 turkey stick and crunch ready to eat meals. I find their size to be more of a snack then a meal. Great for planes and traveling.

Pacific Gold Original Beef Jerky Comes with 12 individually sealed travel size pouches. The back of the package clearly states gluten free.

One additional recommendation. There is a company located in Newbury Park, California called Minimus. They specialize in travel size food and other items. They have a gluten free section on their website where they sell individual travel size food items (individual single portion gluten free peanut butter and humus packets which provide good protein, also cereals). They can be purchased on line and they ship throughout the country. Minimus' website is www.minimus.biz<http://www.minimus.biz> Click on specialty food on the left hand side of the home page, then select diet-specific food, then select gluten free food.

2) I travel a far amount for work, and very often am gone for a week or more with limited access to gluten free food items and facilities. I agree with Amy's suggestion of lots of nuts, seeds, and dried fruit. I also would recommend popcorn, peanut butter (or any nut butter) with rice cakes, fruit and vegetables. I also carry with me some shelf stable microwavable meals (ie Thai Kitchen). Most hotels will provide you access to a microwave or even some restaurants will microwave for you. I know that is a challenge when you are a teenager to ask for those things but that is the challenges that we face. Oh and one last thing. I often take cereal of my choice with the one serving tera packs of rice milk that are shelf stable. Good luck to her! It will definitely be a learning experience for her.

3) We are in Ellicott City, MD- we can accommodate her needs, we have frozen meals and deli sandwiches, etc...we can ship frozen items...

4) If the school trip you wrote about is from a public school I would suggest the family get on the phone first thing tomorrow morning to the Department of Justice ADA people and find out exactly what federal guidelines might cover the matter. Celiac effects eating, which is a major life activity and thus, in certain circumstances, an activity covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Even if it is not a public school, I believe there would be some level of ADA protection which would would require the company to make some accommodation. I had to do this a while back when a program my son was enrolled in tried to back out of a commitment to accommodate his celiac diet.DOJ phone number for this can be found on their website.

5) Other ideas... Keep GF cereal and fruit on hand for breakfast. They will have milk or keep that in your fridge. There are a few WF in DC. Pick up GF lunch meat and bread, bars, pretzels ,cookies ect. Make your sandwich before bed, and pack your cooler every morning.

6) If she goes to the American Indian Museum, which you did not disclose where they will be sightseeing, they have a really gluten free restaurant that is awesome.

7) Gopicnic makes some gluten free snacks that are like lunchables, but require no refrigeration. They are small and easy to pack, so they would be easy to bring, especially for any time she may be unexpectedly caught without a meal. I saw them on sale at Target this week for $3.50 a box, but they can also be ordered on Amaon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=gopicnic+gluten&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Agopicnic+gluten

We recently visited Washington and discovered ahead of time that our hotel was a block from a Safeway. So we brought food for our car ride, but then restocked from the grocery store when we were there. One night we had a feast of gf crackers, cheese, shrimp with cocktail sauce, apples, grapes, cut up vegetables, and chocolate that we picked up at the store. They also had frozen gf bagels, which we microwaved at the store and brought home for breakfast. We saw a number of Whole Foods around the city. If she knows where they are staying and finds that they are near a grocery store or Whole Foods, her mom could run out and restock during the week.

Ideas of things to pack include individual tubs of Jif peanut butter (they come in an 8 pack and are called Jif-to-go) to throw in her day pack along with crackers, rice cakes, and pretzels, trail mix, sandwich fixings along with a knife, small cutting board, and foil to make sandwiches in the mornings to bring along for the day, apples, individual containers of apple sauce, carrots...

We only ate one meal out when we were in Washington. It was at a chain called Roti which had gf kebobs, salads, and even gf naan. There are a lot of locations throughout the city, so if there is an opportunity to dash into one of these to grab a takeout meal, that could be helpful.
