Thanks to everyone who sent the zillions of great replies to my query
about GF snack/energy bars. Many, many people gave Larabars raves. Some
of the other bars that got several recommendations: Glutino, Boomi,
Think Thin, Bumble and Nature's Path's EnvironKidz.

Folks contributed these Web links for bars:
http://www.thinkproducts.com/lowbars.html, http://www.larabar.com/,
http://www.organicfoodbar.com/, http://www.govindasblissbars.com/,
http://www.eatnatural.co.uk/, www.aricofoods.com.

Here is a sample of the replies:

Larabars - all the flavors are very yummy, but the cherry pie is to die
for. I can get these at Wild Oats, my yoga studio (Santa Monica, CA),
and I have seen them at the GF Trading Co.

I also enjoy Creme de la creme Hamp & Flax organic- from GF Mall or
Erewhen (Los Angeles) and Boomi bar cashew almond from GF Mall. I worry
about brands that make GF and non-GF versions, so I have stuck with
these and not had a problem.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I would recommend Bumble Bars (labeled Gluten free) and Gertrude &
Bonner's Magic Alpsnack (Dairy, gluten & Wheat free) Espresso Chocolate
is yummy (the have a website www.alpsnack.com .  But, I must say that we
love Luna Bars, (but we have been eating oats for years without any
problem).
I have tried some of the "gf" bars in the grocery store, but for
whatever
reason they seem to make me sick (maybe the chemicals).  I used to
loooove
the 365 bars at Whole Foods, but they discontinued them!  Anyway, now
I'm
into Glutino breakfast bars.  They fill me up better than 365, and
though
they don't have the added "chemical" (meaning that it is added, not in
the
food naturally) nutrition, I feel better when I eat those than others.
They
really fill you up.  Bummer is, you have to mail order them.
I eat AuntCandice Apple Berry Breakfast Bars which are delicious. They
are high in protein and fiber, GF, casein free, corn, dairy and soy
free.  I also order ANDI bars from the Autism Network and I use the
Blueberry Breakfast bar which is high in protein and can get you through
plane trips, etc.  They also have a great Vanilla Shake bar.  There are
others but I can't do chocolate.  So check out www.auntcandicefoods.com
and look for protein bars. Do a google search for ANDI and  you will
find the autism site for the ANDI bars.  I am also hypoglycemic so I
need the protein. Hope this is helpful. There is also an Omega Smart Bar
that has soy and sorghum in it and is great but I have a problem with
corn and soy so don't eat many of them but love them.
We have had luck with Tiger Milk Bars.
~~~~~~~~~~~
There's a new line of bars that GF and delicious - Think Organic.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I use Nature's Path's EnvironKidz Organic Crispy Rice Bars which are
labeled as gluten-free.  They come in a few different
flavors--chocolate, peanut butter and berry are what I use.  They taste
pretty good.  I only eat them when I'm out shopping or running errands
and can't get to a gluten-free source--they hold me over until I can.
They are labeled as having "Nothing artificial! No additives!"  The
wrapper on the bar also states that it "May contain traces of peanuts,
tree nuts, or soy."  I got mine at Whole Foods and Stop & Shop.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Boomi Bars at Costco are supposed to be gluten-free. Are you sure that
the small amount of oats in Luna bars would bother you? Clif bars come
in several flavors. I often make my own trail mix and put it in small
plastic zip-loc bags. There are lots of choices of nuts, dried fruit
(be sure it doesn't have flour), dates, raisins, maybe some chocolate
chips, coconut, etc.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I myself like Nutiva Organic Hempseed bars - they're small and filling
and travel well (I'm currently investigating which other bars they make
are also gf). I just ran into a new bar, bumble bees which makes several
gf varieties. I've tried them, but find them salty and much less yummy
in general than the Hemp Plus ones.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I buy the nutrition bars called "Think Thin" and "Larabar." Both are
have gluten-free flavors and are available at the Whole Foods stores in

my area (MA). I like the Think Thin bars, because they are cheaper and

I feel more satisfied after eating them. The Chunky Peanut Butter,
Mudslide Espresso Mocha, and Brownie Crunch are all good. The S'Mores
flavor is not GF. They cost about $1.70 on sale. "Think Thin"
http://www.thinkproducts.com/lowbars.html
"Larabar" is at: http://www.larabar.com/
~~~~~~~~~~~
I have a friend who buy's Miss Roben's buckwheat flakes and makes her
own granola bars because the light buckwheat passes for oatmeal in a
recipe. Paula
~~~~~~~~~~~
Lara Bars - Cashew cookie flavor (but they have quite a few others) and
Organic Food Bars
- Almond Flax flavor. The Organic Food Bar packaging is not the most
attractive but it tastes great and has a good balance of fat/carbs/fiber
which has been tough to find.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Go to whole foods or Trader Joes.  Glow bars are GF as are Think Thin,
low carb diet bars.  Unfortunately these bars do contain malitol which
can cause GI distress.
~~~~~~~~~~~
We had good luck with Bliss Bars. They sell them at Whole Foods. About
5 different varieties.
~~~~~~~~~~~
BEST bars I had were ones I ordered form Aunt Candice. THEY
ROCKED...they were fantastic. .I know GLutano makes some things too..I
have not used them . Energ also has granola bars....crunchy....yummmy .
I have also resorted to taking a bag of sunflower seeds and buying dried
cherries or fruit and mixing thaat up.
~~~~~~~~~~~
If you cannot find any, make some rice krispie bars using GF cereal and
adding chocolate chips, nuts and dates to them. The chips have to be
added when the bars are all spread out otherwise you have chocolate
bars. Great tasting chocolate bars if that is what you want. Peanut
butter can also be added.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Hershey's Smart Zone is gluten free and it is very good.  My kids love
it and ask for it all the time.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Lara Bars, Tiger milk Bars and Balance bars. All have some that are gf.
Also Think Thin bars are labeled gf but I did not care for them.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm especially partial to Organic Food Bar and the other products from
the Bio International line of bars. See their web site at
<http://www.organicfoodbar.com/>. I buy their original bar, their Vegan
bar, their bar with chocolate chips, and their Almond-Flax bar. I
haven't tried their Omega-3 or their Active Greens (with or without
chocolate chips) bars. I know that the barley grass and wheat grass in
the Active Greens bars are gf--I just don't think I need to eat grass. I
find these bars at my local Whole Foods. I also like Govinda Bliss Bars
(whole nuts & dried fruits) <http://www.govindasblissbars.com/>, but the
local Whole Foods seems to have stopped carrying them. The local Wild
Oats never had them. . Eat Natural Bars <http://www.eatnatural.co.uk/>.
