Thanks to all for your responses. You are so wonderful!

There is a PF CHANGS right downtown, and they have a GF menu!

Do be sure that the pasta is truly gluten-free and not just
*wheat-free.* There are people who think that spelt pasta is OK for
celiacs, and it definitely is NOT. Best to bring them some Tinkyada,
Bi-Aglut, or DeBoles made from rice.

Also, be sure they understand that they need to clean your pan and use
it only for your pasta.

Just be cautious. I have learned that restaurant people can say all the
right things and still not "get it." They agree not to add anything to
my son's steak, and then they garnish it with onion rings.

I work here in SLC, so eat out a bit. I have eaten at the PF Chang's at 3rd South and 2nd West. They will make almost anything on their menu gf for you. Don't go by their "GF Menu", they can make just about anything but the wheat noodles and one other thing I can't remember right now gf. I have talked to the chef a number of times (they will come to your table), and they have gf soy sauce there, and all of the servers are familiar with the term gluten-free.

Market Street Grill (downtown) has always been good. They will prepare my fish by baking it or whatever they have to do. They have a wonderful dessert named (I'm not sure how to spell it) but it's pronounced Sabayone (Sa ba yone). I'ts french, and I'm not good at spelling that, sorry. It's a heavy cream with Haagen Daz ice cream with lots of fresh berries - delicious! I have also eaten their viniagrette salad dressings without problem - they make them from scratch.

In Sandy, there is a mexican restaurant called Geckos. The owner is very familiar with GF, and they will do anything they can to alter a dish to make it gf. I've had the veggie burrito, which they will make with corn torillas instead of flour. They have a shrimp kebab with grilled vegetables that is also wonderful. The rice and beans are all gf. You mainly just need to avoid the chili relleno, enchilada sauce and tamales there. The food is very fresh, and their guacamole is to die for! The restaurant is located just off of 106th South just west of the freeway in the Jordan River bottom.

There is also a good chinese restaurant in Sandy called Asian Star. It is in the Canyon Racquet club on the east side. They have wonton soup that is absolutely delicious, and will also alter anything they have. The soy sauce contains wheat, but I have had the chicken with lobster sauce and also a shrimp dish (I can't remember which one - I think it was the shrimp with snow peas) which had lots and lots of veggies. They will make you something that will surprise you if you want - just tell them what you like to eat meat and veggie wise, and they will make you a dish of it.

If you happen to get to a Pizza Factory, (I have eaten at the one in Provo) they have a grilled italian vegetable salad with chicken that's very good. I always ask for their homemade italian dressing - otherwise it comes with Hidden Valley Ranch dressing. I haven't eaten at the ones in SLC, but imagine they serve the same sort of dish or could make it for you.

There is also a mexican restaurant in Provo by BYU that is called Rosa's. They have a mango chicken salad that is very good. They told me that they don't use flour in any of their dishes except the flour tortillas, and that everything else is okay to eat. I have also eaten the chicken something enchiladas, and they were good.

There is also an italian restaurant named Canella's at 2nd East and 5th South. They have an italian sausage salad that is wonderful. I like it with their balsamic vinegar dressing. It comes with the italian sausage, garbanzo beans, kidney beans, pepperocinis, cheese, beets, cucumbers, etc. It's very filling, but I always get the full order because it's so good. If you ask for it with no bread, they will even take 25 cents off the price.

Good luck with the wedding, and hope you find something good to eat while you're here.
Janet

Plese be careful, wheat-free may not be gluten-free.!

Hi Glenda -

There's a P.F. Chang's in downtown SLC that we went to last
summer when we were in SANDY (small world!) visiting my
brother. Chang's knew all about the diet and the cook sent
out a list of things he could do for me. I also have a
problem with yeast (no GF soy sauce) and shellfish so that
narrowed the field considerably. I still had a wonderful
meal and it was heaven knowing I didn't have to wonder about
whether I would get sick. When we traveled in the area we
just looked for Wendy's. My sister-in-law told me about a
few health food stores in the area, too, but I didn't have
to go there b/c I had packed a few snacks (cookies and
crackers) and the family there had shopped with me in mind.
We all ate plain, naked food while we were there and none of
the non-celiacs suffered in the least. Good luck, and have
a great time!
