I have found the same to be true in my case.  I can handle pecorino romano
cheese (made from sheeps milk ) but not parmassan cheese ( made from cows
milk ). Also I was pleased to find out that I can handle Ghee ( rendered or
clarified butter ) but of course no butter.
 
I can give instructions on making ghee if anyone sends requests direclty to
my ID.
