Thanks for the 6 replies I rec'd in response to my attempt to find/locate/make a Gluten Free Bread Bowl. Looks like I will try the mix from the Gluten Free Pantry.

Thanks to everyone who replied! (Summary is below).

see page 11 of the French Bread recipe booklet. It's called Dilly Casserole Bread. It's made in a round casserole- perfect shape and size to hollow out for chili and dips. If you remove the dill, spice and onion, you can make a plain bread. You can also adapt it to whatever you are serving with it. However, it is very tasty as is. Hope this helps. Beth

I've been dying to replicate the bread bowl too. Memories of hot chowder in the bread at the Annapolis, Maryland Sailboat shows. I used to make a very good French bread from scratch that seemed like a candidate. I read somewhere to bake it in a glass bowl. I never tried. It's probably a Hagmann recipe. I'll let you know if I find it.

I haven't tried this, but it should be possible to buy any gf bread mix, such as Gluten Free Pantry Sandwich Bread, and bake the bread according to directions. Just use an oven proof bowl for the bread pan. I think a metal mixing bowl would work. On the other hand, you will NEVER get the same consistency as wheat bread. Try carving the insides of a squash or using a red cabbage as the container for the spinach dip. It looks pretty, and the gf sesame crackers from Trader Joe's or the Lindberg Farms Rice Chips would be great. Good luck.

Since GF bread has to have support, I would suggest baking bread in several actual bowls, whatever size you want the final product to be. There are several good recipes at www.redstaryeast.com . I have made the pumpernickle and the rye. I have "doctored" them and really you can take liberties adding things for extra fiber. I think one of these would make a good bread bowl; in fact, I think I'll try it! Mary Ann

Please, tell us how it turns out in the Delphi forum if you make them. It could interest quite a few members
