Thank you to everyone who responded to my inquiry for places to eat in the
Indian Rocks Beach area outside of St. Petersburg Florida. The trip was
fantastic and I only ended up eating out once while I was there. We had a
condo with a fully equipped kitchen and I had ordered the sample pack from
Kinnickinnik with bread, muffins and cookies that lasted through the week
and we did many group barbeques on the beach.

I did eat at Crabby Bills in Indian Rocks Beach for lunch. It was my mistake
that while I did order my broiled fish with nothing on it, I didn't even
think to ask about what they broil it in, assuming that with access to fresh
fish at the beach, they wouldn't even think about cooking it in any kind of
oil. However, at Crabby Bills, they broil their fish in margarine which was
very disconcerting to me. They also did not serve baked potatoes for lunch,
only dinner.

The following is a summary of the emails I recieved:

1. I believe there is a seafood restaurant called TJ's on the main street
in IR. I had lobster tail there - they also had broiled shrimp and baked
potatoes etc. There was another seafood restaurant right before you cross
the bridge to IR - can't remember the name, but there are a lot of places
where you can get broiled fish etc.

Also, in Tampa - Berns Steakhouse - a wonderful restaurant with the best
chautibriand I have ever had - been there about 50+ years (and expensive).

2. I would reccommend Outback Steakhouse, and Chili's. If you were willing
to go further there is a great health food store in Palm Harbor, The Palm
Harbor Natural Food Store. Spoto's Steak Joint in Dunedin is said to be good
by the ladies on my support group. I very rarely go to Indian Rocks Beach,
but I am sure just about any resturant will accomidate. It is a wealthy
area, and therefore decent places to eat. There are alot of high class
places over the bridge in Tampa, and a great Thai place called Thai Nana in
Palm Harbor.

3. IThere is a chain of restaurants there called "Shells." We ate at
one of the smaller ones on St. Pete Beach (prob. 15 minutes from Indian
Rocks Beach) and although they were smaller and were part of a hotel
(the others seemed to be separate restaurants) they offered my wife the
Shrimp "Sunset Special" which is normally 2 skewers (2 dozen) shrimp and
steamed veggies. Since she could not eat their normally included and
delicious (and definitely not GF) clam chowder soup they gave her an
extra skewer of shrimp. The waiter and manager were most happy to take
my wife's card and select something that would not harm her, they even
went so far as to clean the area of the grill where they prepared her
shrimp. All "Sunset" specials are between appx $7 and $10 and are VERY
filling and well prepared. The catch is they are offered from 3 - 5
P.M., but you may order for slightly higher at normal hours.

****I would definitely NOT recommend trying my favorite boyhood haunt "Ted
Peters Smoked Fish" just the other side of the bridge from St Pete Beach as
they were very rude, unhelpful, did not want to even look at the card and
said something like "Lady, there ain't nuthin on our menu that we can
guarantee won't have this stuff in it", all the while looking beyond us to
see who they could move into our highly sought-after table once we left,
which we did.
