An interesting book that I just picked up :Can a Gluten-Free Diet Help? How?
by Lloyd Rosenvold, M.D. It's not very long, but has some interesting
information about gluten-intolerance and its possible influence on other
health problems, such as MS, Myasthenia Gravis, and Candida. More
importantly, Dr. Rosenvold hypothesizes that CD may be greatly
underdiagnosed, and he describes the various "nebulous" symptoms
gluten-intolerant people may have. Not everyone has the classic symptoms,
and it seems that the older one is before being diagnosed, the "stranger" the
sypmtoms are and the more difficult CD is to diagnose. I feel fortunate that
my daughter received a definite diagnosis, but for those folks out there who
are not sure, or whose tests are not definitive, this book may be of help.
(He also adds some gf recipes at the end of the book--but much better
cookbooks are available!)
A thought--wouldn't it be something if it ends up that so many people
have CD that all food manufacturers try to eliminate as much unnecessary
gluten from their products as possible and use this as a marketing strategy?
Dream on! Not that I would wish this condition on anyone, but more
awareness in the general population would be welcome.
