JACQUELINE MALLORCA TO SPEAK AT CELIAC DISEASE SUPPORT GROUP MEETING

Jacqueline Mallorca, an established cookbook author and a regular
contributor to the San Francisco Chronicle food pages, will be
speaking of her experiences upon being diagnosed with Celiac Disease
at the next meeting of the South Bay Celiacs in Los Gatos, California.
The meeting will be held on Saturday, April 26, 1997, at 11:00 a.m. in
conference room number three at Community Hospital of Los Gatos, 815
Pollard Road (west of Winchester Boulevard, north of Lark Avenue) at
11:00 AM.

As a professional food writer, Jacqueline Ross Mallorca was chagrined
to discover that she had Celiac Disease, and that, to be healthy, she
could no longer eat anything containing wheat, barley, oats or rye.
Torn between outrage and laughter at the diet sheets supplied by her
physician, Ms. Mallorca set about redefining classic recipes,
substituting rice flour, corn flour, potato starch, and nut flours for
flour made from wheat. To the great good fortune of others with
Celiac Disease, Ms Mallorca used her considerable cooking skills to
meet the challenge of her new diet conditions, resulting in the
creation of THE WHEAT-FREE KITCHEN, A Celebration of Good Food, the
first of a series of cookbooks filled with delicious and enjoyable
wheat-free recipes.

The South Bay Celiac Support Group, which meets in Los Gatos,
California, provides information and support to those who have Celiac
Disease in the south San Francisco Bay and Santa Cruz areas. Call
(408)423-6904 for more information.
