Local sources where some people find sweet rice flour are:

Asian section of supermarket
Health food stores
Asian grocery stores, especially Japanese markets

It is also called Mochi flour or glutinous rice flour and comes in a white
box about the size of a box of cornstarch.

Several people mentioned that they liked sweet rice flour as a thickener in
gravies, sauces, etc., and that it is less gritty than regular white rice
flour.

I did check my well-stocked grocery store again, which has four full
sections of Asian foods, but they do not have this flour, so I guess that
individual markets must decide whether or not to carry it. Interestingly, I
can find tapioca flour, rice flour, brown rice flour, and millet flour in
grocery store, but no sweet rice. I also re-checked my rather large health
food store, in the flour, international, and bulk foods areas, and cannot
find it. Maybe it is not in demand here in Pittsburgh. I will check out
the Asian grocers in the area.

I was also directed to the following websites, which I checked out:

Authentic Foods: $ 8.00 for 3-lb. bag

http://www.authenticfoods.com

Bob's Red Mill: $ 2.89 for 24-oz. bag, or 4 bags for $ 10.40

http://www.bobsredmill.net/

Ener-g Foods: $ 3.49 for a 20-oz. box or $ 7.45 for a 5-lb. pkg.

http://www.ener-g.com/

Miss Robens: $ 1.49 for a 1-lb. bag or $ 7.49 for a 5-lb. bag

http://www.missroben.com/

Thanks to all of you for your help.

Kathy
