Hello,
I found out that I have Celiac last December after having a positive
blood test and biopsy. Not presenting with "classic" Celiac symptoms
seriously delayed my diagnoses. (I am 40yrs old.) My Grandfather had a
duodenal ulcer and died of stomach cancer. My Mother, who is 73, has had
gastrointestinal problems all her life. Just recently she was told that she
has very bad diverticulitis with numerous non-cancerous polyps. When she
told her Gastroenterologist that I have Celiac he reluctantly did an
endoscope. He told her that she has chronic duodenitis, a hiatal hernia,
and a gastric ulcer. What he seemed most concerned with was the amount of
helicobacter pyloric organisms in her body. ("You're loaded with it") He
told her that she would have to take massive doses of a strong antibiotic and
then she would be cured. The blood work and biopsy were negative for
Celiac. He told my Mom that I probably do not have Celiac but this
helicobacter thing because it is genetic. Of course I am going to call my
Doctor ..but until I can speak with him on Wednesday, has anyone heard of
anything like this? Or have any advice? Thank you for reading this.
