Okay, that is a joke at myself for sloppy language in my post about
gluten in the classroom. Yes, I understand that the molecules are not
stalking me.

Summary: several good suggestions on the falling asleep issue - more
protein in the morning, livelier classes (oh, do I wish that were an
option), bribing myself with gf food to combat cicadian rhythyms (which
certainly don't help in my case).

Back to the stalking molecules. The responses seemed to run about 1/3
people who had trouble with other folk's gluten and 2/3 people who
thought that I must be raiding my classmates' lunches to have such gluten
troubles. Well, no, I'm not snitching food or cheating. What I am doing
is sitting at a table which has likely seen early lunches and late
breakfasts before my sandwich-gnoshing classmates and I even got there.

The class is an education class and we spend a lot of time passing
manipulatives back and forth - in other words, handling things that have
been down on the table. I've realized that my problems may be less if I
break a bad habit I have of putting my hands up to my face a lot - no,
I'm not directly devouring breadcrumbs, but I probably am getting gluten
the same way we all get cold viruses. I've noticed the same thing at
home - my kids can have all the bagel, cookie, etc. they want in the yard
or even in the car with me - no problem. If they eat oat flour dusted
corn tortillas in the kitchen and I clean up afterwards- problem. Non
gf salad dressings for the kids are no problem, either, since the gluten
is in sticky stuff, not dust. (My husband cleans out the car when it
needs it.)

Anyway, that's my theory on the discrepency between those who have to
cheat to suffer and those who feel like simply smelling the stuff is
doing them harm. Thanks to all who offered support and advice.

Elizabeth
