Hello List,

I wanted to let you all know about a wonderful free Android App I used on a recent road trip up and down the east coast (NY --> Miami, FL, via KY and GA, and back).

It uses the phone's GPS/tower location to find gluten free restaurants/supermarkets in your area.  It is user updated, and many of the entries include menus accessible right in the app.  It does include all the familiar chains, and they sometimes overwhelm the list of options, but I also happened upon some wonderful local places that were a treat to explore.  I imagine that the catalog will only improve as more people use it and add their favorite gluten-free-friendly locations.

I have Celiac, and am extremely sensitive.  I used this app to select every lunch/dinner stop on our 12 day road trip, combined with packed Udi's bagels for breakfast, and a few packed sandwich lunches on excursion days.  We only repeated 1 chain, and that was mostly due to our own exhaustion and need for a quick meal than lack of options.  I did not have ANY gluten reactions the entire trip.  12 days outside of my own kitchen, and completely gluten free!!!  It was fantastic.  All the usual rules for apply though - read ingredient labels, check with servers to make sure they know what they're doing, etc.
