QUESTION ASKED: We are about to take our first "gluten-free" vacation
to Ocean City, MD. I was wondering if anyone knew of any health stores
close by (just in case) or have any good/bad experiences with any of the
restuarants or hotels.

REPLIES:

There is a health food store in Ocean City, in the upper blocks...we
used it last summer, but I didn't check it out this year. It's in one
of the little shopping centers on the bay side of Coastal Highway...I
remember that they actually carried some gluten-free foods - cereal,
crackers, cookies...

We go to Bethany Beach, 2 beaches down from OC (about 15 min away).
There were several health food stores listed in the phone book at
Bethany. We haven't tired them yet. But I imagine one of them would
have our food.

There is an Outback Steakhouse, there is also a great restaurant called
The Galaxy on Ocean Hiighway and about 63rd street (they take
reservations and I recommend you make one). Call and talk to a chef.
They have been very accomodating. On the boardwalk you can eat
Thrashers French fries (best in the world) and Dolles carmel corn (also
great).

On the Boardwalk, there is a place called Thrashers, they have the best
french fries and thats all they serve! It is safe, I asked the guy, all
they cook them in is oil! YUM. I bought most of my own food there with
me being I wan't sure. There is an Olive Garden, or Olive Tree there.

The last time I was in Bethany Beach there were two or three health food
stores with a pretty good selection of GF foods available. Unfortunately
I can't remember the names of them but one would be on the left going
into Bethany Beach from Ocean City. When the highway curves to the left
or you can go straight into "downtown" Bethany, stay on 1 and it's
immediately on the left. They had the most GF stuff in one place I had
ever seen.

We had a good experience at Nicks South (bayside 74th street). My son
had a baked potato and baked chicken. We also went to Higgins
(31st-32nd St. & Baltimore Ave.) my son enjoyed a baked potato (again),
corn on the cob, and lots of crab legs.

North of Ocean city is Bethany Beach, much nicer beach for families. Sea
Colony is a condo type place on the beach. Across the street is the best
health food store, GF stuff.

There is an excellent health food store across the street from the
Fountainhead ( or in that general area). They carry a nice selection of
GF foods - pies, pasta, bread, cookies - sorry can't remember the name.
