I recently went to an acquaintance's for dinner. I hadn't mentioned
anything about not eating gluten because the dinner was sort of a
last-minute thing, and I don't know this person that well, and I didn't
want to make a big fuss. (And I had just found out that I *don't* have
celiac--long story--so even though I hadn't been eating gluten, I was
probably going to start again at some point.) I brought a bag of fancy
dog treats for her fox terrier. She thanked me, but said unfortunately,
her dog was gluten intolerant and so couldn't eat them. Heightening the
irony--they actually *had* gluten-free dog biscuits at the pet store,
but I couldn't imagine there was actually a market for them!
