I have missed having the Blooming Onions that were popular a number of
years ago. A local home economist did this recently on a cooking show
on TV. This is GF but without the batter.

Prepare the Onions:

Cut off the stem end of the onion and remove the dry layers. Do not
remove the root.
Make 4 cuts vertically, the first 2 at right angles, and the next 2
diagonally.. You will have an onion divided into 8 portions. DO NOT
cut thru the root end.

Spray with cooking oil. Sprinkle it liberally with Creole seasoning,
or your favorite flavoring.

Place on a microwave proof plate and cook on Hi setting 6 minutes or
until cooked. It will "bloom."

Serve with a ranch style dressing as dip.

ENJOY! Beth MO
