Dear Listmates,

Thanks to all who replied about instant mashed potatoes that could be
confirmed gluten-free. Here are the responses I received:

I believe that Barbara's Mashed Potatoes are GF. Haven't checked for a
over a year as I've discovered that I love my own mashed far more!

-------------

I called [Idahoan] in August (2000) and received the following
list of GF products:

Original Recipe Scalloped Potatoes
Mashed
Complete Mashed
REAL Premium Mashed
Skillet Hash Browns
REAL Premium Hash Browns

Their number is 630-787-2626. I have purchased them in Illinois
and Wisconsin. Don't know about your area.

--------------

--Walnut acres has instant potatoes I ordered over the internet but I am
not sure of the status of the company www.walnutacres.com

--------------

this is on the okay list ( I think) as gfcf at http://www.gfcfkids.com,
I will forward your mail to them, you might want to look over their list
if you avoid dairy also, they have lots of options on their food list.

---------------

Pillsbury is one of the few companies that will actually list wheat as
an ingredient, even if there is a possibility of contamination. This
information is based on several conversations I had with the manager of
consumer relations over the past two years. According to her, since
wheat is one of the 17 known allergens, it will be listed as an
ingredient if suppliers change, if cross-contamination is suspected, or
if it is an ingredient in the product. We have used Pillsbury products
for two years with no mishaps. I hope this kind of consumer service continues.

Hope this information helps some of you.

Laurie
