To give you a little background in hopes that I can get advice. I am 30 year
old female who is in great health. I work for a large company who offers great
life insurance. So a quite a few years ago I decided I should enroll in a plan.
In February 2007 I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Along that time I had
a daughter and decided that I needed to increase my life insurance just in
case something happened to me. So at the beginning of this year my
company was offering the ability to increase life insurance at a discounted
rate. So of course I signed up. Well just yesterday I received a letter from
the life insurance company saying I am denied to increase coverage
because "Your medical history of Celiac disease as reveiwed in the information
provided by your doctor". My jawed dropped when I read this letter. So of
course first thing this morning I wrote a letter to them requesting the details
of their decision which is my right to do. My husband who has HBP and takes
medicine for it, asthma and takes medicine for it, and a heart condition that
he doesn't take medicine for was approved the increase in coverage. ARE
YOU KIDDING ME was my first thought???? All morning I have been doing
research online to see what I could come up with because I am so angry.
What surprises me the most is that I was diagnosed in 2/07 and my blood
levels were through the roof and they did another blood test in 12/2007 and
my blood levels were within normal range. So just by my diet of 10 months I
was within normal range so my body bounced back quickly and to me that
should be a good sign to insurance. So my question......Can't I fight this
decision, I mean I don't even understand the logic and am I forever going to
be declined for this? Any tips or advice or similar situations would be great.
