It is with great pleasure that the Listowners announce the formation of a List
for celiac children and their parents. This separate List will address the
issues that are unique to celiac children, friends, and families.

Because many of the subscribers will be under 21, the List will be moderated.
This means that all postings must be approved by an Editor. Initially Mike
Jones will perform this function. If anyone desires to assist by being an
Editor, please send a note to Mike Jones. The duties will entail only reading
a share of the daily messages and determining if the subject matter is
appropriate for all ages. Then releasing the message by sending an OK to the
LISTSERV.

The List will not be online for a few more weeks. No exact date has been
established by St Johns, but it should be before mid September. A formal
announcement will be posted on Celiac when it is available for subscriptions.
Those desiring to join early can send a message to Mike Jones with a
subscription request. It will be held until the List is active and then
automatically added. Please send this line to Mike Jones:

Parents may desire to use their child's name for the subscription request on
CEL-KIDS.

The Listowners request that at least one member of the family remain a
subscriber to Celiac, in order to reduce duplication of message traffic.

This spinoff from Celiac is a result of the facts that many parents without
celiac symptoms are at a lost on how to simply their child's GF lifestyle.
They may have never been exposed to this problem when they were growing up.
Also, many children have never meet another Celiac child.

Any parents or children with thoughts on this matter are requested to email my
address with concepts or objectives for CEL-KIDS. I will use these
thoughts to
modify the Welcome message as our initial set of goals. Here is the intial
objectives of the CEL-KIDS:

The goals of the discussion group will be to cover whatever matters its
members find of interest in attempting to improve their collective
lifestyle as celiacs or family members. Some of the areas of discussion
are:

o Techniques for being a celiac child and its impact upon the entire family.

o Tips on how to eat out of the house.

o How to cope issues, including coping with the behavioral changes sometimes
  brought on by gluten.

o How to survey the teenage years.

o Recipes for young cooks and tips on how to cook.

o Interaction between celiac children around the world.
