My copy of  "The Food List" (valid until April 1999) says, on page 15:
"Almost all brands of gluten-free breakfast cereals contain malt extract
or malt extract falvourings which are considered safe for most
Coeliacs."  This issue is discussed on page 4 of the List, and they say
that most Coeliacs should be OK with small amounts of malt, but that
some super-sensitive Coeliacs should omit it also.

Kellogg's Rice Krispies *are* on the list of safe cereals, which could
explain why they are considered to be safe in the UK.
