Hi group,

I just got out of the hospital and had a great experience with a Dr. who
was a gastrointestinal radiology specialist doing an upper GI for me.  I
had to check out all the meds and also water because I am fluoride
intolerant.  (Incidentally, I was just informed that fluoride is an
aluminum by-product.  Does anyone know if that is true?)

I asked him what he knew about Celiac.  He said he had heard of it.
That, I thought, was a "no" answer.  I started my soapbox and figured it
would fall on deaf ears, but did it anyway.  When he started to do the
GI he said, Whoa, the barium usually takes a day or so to get completely
through the small intestines.  In you it passes through in less than a
minute, I can hardly get a picture.  I told him it was probably my CD
that I probably still had no villi.

I then was taken back to my room.  About five hours later, this great
doctor calls back and says to me.  It is great to have such informed
patients.  You taught me more about CD in one lab visit than I learned
in med school.  I just wanted to call you and thank you.  I think he did
more research after I left.

I will write him a thank you note for being so willing to listen and
learn.  If my hospital stay did nothing more but bring information to a
great hospital such as Robert Wood Johnson in New Jersey, I feel it was
worth it.  I hope that meeting this terrific man will bring healing to
thousands of people that he may encounter in his practice.
