New Orleans can be a tough city for a celiac, so I am delighted at the
experience I had there last night. Drago's is a well-known seafood place
with restaurants in suburban Metairie and in the Hilton Hotel downtown on
the Riverwalk, next to the casino and the aquarium. I went to the downtown
one for the famous charbroiled oysters with olive oil, garlic and parmesan.
I told the waitress I had celiac disease and much to my delight she came
back with a list of the menu items that were gluten free and the selection
was great. She told me she thought it was part of a general initiative by
Hilton to be sure that their restaurants were more friendly to people with
food allergies. I'm in New Orleans a lot and usually settle for bland
chicken or broiled fish. I am glad that Drago's is now an option.
