Well, I went ahead and wrote Imagine Foods after the barely incident. Here is
there response. If you are interested do read on as it explains the
processing of barley in their products. Does what they do to it make is safe?

I think not but I am not much of a chemist.

<<Dear Kelly, First and foremost, thank you for your patronage and please
understand that we have in no way intended to mislead you, our valued
consumer. Rice Dream Beverage is made primarily from rice; it contains no
whole wheat or barley ingredients. Our patented enzyme process utilizes
enzymes to convert the complex carbohydrates in brown rice to naturally
occurring sugars. These enzymes are derived from various grains including
barley. It is this process that gives Rice Dream its unique sweet flavor
without the need for added sweeteners. The actual grains used to grow the
enzymes are fully discarded after the enzymes are distracted. There is a
remote possibility that gluten may exist in munute amounts in the final
product. The barley protein in the final Rice Dream Beverage product, if it
existed at all, would occur in parts per million which is less than 5 mg
barley protein per 8 oz serving.

Kelly, on behalf of Imagine Foods, I will refund your money with our
apologies. Thank you again for your patronage. Susan Sigoloff

A very nice reply. My letter to them was firm but not screaming. I feel like
perhaps the Rice Dream might be ok, but who knows. I have to get on top of
everything else before I am willing to add this back into my diet.
