Dear Listserv Members:

We are so excited about the May Awareness Month Events! First, there was
New Hampshire's Proclamation by Governor John Lynch.

Late Monday, Representative Nita Lowey of New York introduced 'National
Celiac Awareness' legislation, H.Con.Res. 110.

This simple awareness bill is used as an educational tool for Members of
Congress and their staff. It lays the groundwork for the other, more
difficult issues, we work on. Issues like eliminating preexisting
conditions from health insurance, getting insurance plans to reimburse
dietitians for the nutritional services they provide to celiac patients, and
to improve the labeling on foods and prescription drugs. There is so much

policymakers don't know about celiac disease.

That's why it helps to focus attention during one month - MAY - to highlight
a few of the needs and concerns of individuals with celiac disease and those
who serve the community.

Your Representative can help to raise awareness about celiac disease, too,
just ask them. Put the request in writing by going to:
www.americanceliac.org/advocacy.htm .

It's May - Time to Celebrate, Educate and Advocate!
