Okay Gang-here we go with an opportunity to make a difference and
educate a company which cares. Help me out here please.
        Today I called the makers of Perry's ice cream to see if it was gluten
free. Got a voice mail and left a message and was extremely surprised
when a lovely young woman called me back in about 5 minutes. She assured
me that their obvious flavors like vanilla ., chocolate , etc were gf
and that she would be happy to send me a list. As always she said refer
to the label with the list of ingredients. That led into a discussion
where I mentioned that ingredients listings were not always sufficient,
for example was the vanilla or other flavorings used gluten free. She
said what did I mean , it was their understanding that flavoring such as
vanilla made with grain alcohols were gf she also had the understanding
that wheat starch is gf. Not so to MY understanding. We talked for
nearly an hour after which she thanked me profusely and said she had a
much better idea of what celiac is all about and the seriousness of
being gf now. But the BEST part was she asked me if I could get some
information for her on these two issues-grain alcohols and wheat starch.
When she sends me the gf list(which she is now questioning the validity
of) she will send me a self addressed stamped envelope for me to return
information to her and she will take it up with their R&D department.
She says Perry's really cares about their customers and does not want to
mislead anyone. If their products are not gf they don't want to claim
they are and make anyone sick.
        This is a golden opportunity so please give me as much and as specific
info as you can. We CAN make a diference.
