Hi, all,
After I posted my summary about lactose intolerance and goat's milk I 
got several more responses. I'd waited several weeks to summarize so 
this is more a response to the summary than the original post. Here 
'tis, then I'm signing off again. I can't keep up with all the emails

Sounds like folks are confusing latose intolerance with the allergy
to the proteins in cows milk.  I am alergic to the protein in
cows milk but have no problems with teh sugar in it..been this way
my whole life. The majority of my doctors thoughout the years have
not known the difference between these even and often try to tell
me it's an intolerance to the sugar as there is no such thing
as an allergy to the protein in cows milk. It's so annoying.

An allergy to the proteins is inherited and common in those from 
southern
europe and northern africa (I'm of italian decent and my father had a 
very
dramatic variation of this from birth, with 3 of his 7 children having
inherited a milder form of the allergy).

Goats milk is the prefered substitute for cows milk in children with an
allergy to cows milk

And from others, about raw milk:

"My grand daughter had dairy problems and yes, goats milk was okay with 
her.  We use soy and rice milk.  Our doctor gave us a source for raw 
goat milk sort of like selling street drugs, we had to keep it to 
ourselves. 

I think raw is the key."

"Goats milk did not work for me, I had the same reaction to it as any 
other
milk.

And then I found raw milk.  I almost didn't buy it because I thought it
would unquestionably give me a reaction, but no! It was incredible, no
problems at all, I even was so excited that I drank the entire quart in 
one
day!   And not one bit of bloating or discomfort and certainly none of 
the
worse effects.  I believe it must be the enzymes that are present in raw
milk that aid digestion.

So, I'm in san fran, and can buy it in the store because it is legal 
here
but it varies by state. "

"My 8 y/o is celiac and no longer lactose intolerant.  My sister 
however, is
41 and highly intolerant.
We have been buying raw milk for the past 2-3 months.  My sister came 
over
the other day and I made her a drink with the raw milk as a test 
because the
raw milk is said to have enzymes that are destroyed in the 
pasteurization
process of regular milk that make it easily digestible.
She didn't have ANY problems.  It was quite incredible.
Not sure if you have any stores that carry raw milk.  Might be a 
search."
