Hello all,

I have written previously about my son Brandon who has Down syndrome and CD,
but something has come up that you may be able to help with. My sister has
had for years now a chronic diarrhea (sometimes uncontrolable) terrible gas
and bloating. Both her and I began at a pre-teen age to have night cramps with
diarrhea, terribly painful and dehydrating. This lasted until just recently
(she is 37 and I am 35) and now we only have this every few months. We used
to talk about the way we would use controlled breathing ( Lamaze) to endure
the pain, and the various ways to "shake a leg" to get through it. She had
blood studies for CD that just came back negative and she was crushed because
she had some hope with CD--it was the first thing that truly described what
she was going through.

My 14 year old son has always had bowel problems manifested by stomach cramps
and diarrhea. Our older sister, now about 39, has just began having chronic
diarrhea. Our Grandmother had on and off diarrhea.

My sister is so depressed now, she just cried when they said the blood work
was negative. The doctor acts like now she has a mental problem. He told
her to eat fibercon for two weeks and she'll get better.

Does anyone have any ideas of what else we could check for? Are the blood
studies for CD accurate 100% of the time????

Thanks,

Karin
