Just wanted to share with the List what some people in Richmond, Virginia are
doing to promote the HR 3684: Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection
Act of 2003!

In January, the co-managers of The West End Gluten Intolerance Group (TWEGIG)
along with a dietitian representing Ukrop's Supermarkets met with
Representative Eric Cantor's staff to discuss the importance of HR 3684 to people on the
gluten-free diet. Ukrop's Supermarkets has a large voice in our community,
and they have begun to label their prepared kitchen items and hot soups as being
gluten-free (where applicable), and they have provided a gluten-free list for
their entire store. Having them speak to Representative Cantor's staff was
huge!

Now, the children and parents of our local ROCK group will be hand delivering
drawings and letters created by the children to Representative Cantor's
office in Washington, DC! We hope to have the greatest impact by driving the
distance to Washington to visit with Rep. Cantor in person. This meeting is
planned for March.

With all of us working together, we can get this bill passed!

Sincerely,

Anna Ashworth & Madelyn Smith
CO-Managers
The West End Gluten Intolerance Group
