Thank you to the many who replied who had used Bette's recipe successfully by adding liquid until the starter mix is the right consistency.  One person recommended spooning the flour when measuring rather than scooping, since gf  flour is more dense, and also said she prefers to use Bette Hagman's Four Flour Bean Mix.  I will try all of these suggestions soon.  Thanks again,  Nancy in So. Oregon
