Hi All--

I just spoke with Cephalon (sp?), the manufacturer of Provigil. According to
their medical information, Provigil contains one of three possible starches
- corn, wheat or potato. In a 100 mg tablet, there is 27.5 mg starch; in a
200 mg tablet, there is 54.5 mg of starch. They claim that Provigil is NOT
gluten free. I challenged the representative by saying, "You cannot
guarantee that Provigil is gluten free, though it might NOT contain the
wheat starch. Legally, you won't go out on a limb." She said, yes, that was
accurate.

Can any of our pharmacy/drug-knowlegeable members give me more information?
Is anyone taking Provigil who can tell me if they have had symptoms of
gluten ingestion? I'm asking for more information because of the hundred or
so drugs I've called companies about, this is the first manufacturer who has
had such specific information on mg. of starch per 100 or 200 mg tablet, but
claim they don't know what the starch is because they have no way to
determine which starch is being used.

Thanks for any additional info anyone is willing to share. I'll summarize if
there is interest. ~~Ayn in Alabama
