Thanks to everyone who so generously responded. You are a great group.

Here's the info:

One suggested probiotics.

Fruit and vegetables: Oranges, Apples, bananas, papaya, other fruits, carrots, celery, etc. and nuts. One found increasing orange juice works. One added: I should have mentioned that the high liquid content of eating an orange, along with the natural fiber from the pulp, is a great help.

My ped gi suggested dried plums (prunes). I learned that it is because of the sorbitol in the fruit.
Prunes contain a high amount of natural sorbitol and they can be readily found at most grocery stores. Also, these do not have the "bulking" effect that extra fiber agents have. She suggested a bedtime snack of 6 to 12 dried prunes. But another said she can only tolerate 3 prunes a day.

High fiber products: an organic protein drinkpowder made by Nutiva. It comes in a 16 oz container or individual packages. Also comes in Berry flavor and Chocolate.

Konsyl is GF and works well.

2 recommended Heather's Tummy Care which is acacia fiber and can be got from www.helphttp://www.helpforibs.com. Start with just one teaspoon of the powder in about 6 oz. of pure water; put the water at room temp in the glass, then slowly sprinkle the powder over the top and stir. Drink it quickly or it will congeal. I usually don't need more than about 2-3 tsp. a day over the course of a day. I can't believe how wonderful this stuff is, and I am very sensitive (also cannot tolerate psyllium etc......).

Glucomannan (from konjac root) is a heavy-duty alternative to psyllium husk. Available at health foods stores.

Inulin -Fiber Choice. FiberChoice is gluten free, according to the company. The number to call for verification is 1-877-553-4237. It comes in chewable tablet form which can be taken without water. FiberChoice is available in a variety of quantities. I bought a small roll that fits in my purse and can be refilled from a larger container. You can buy FiberChoice at a number of places, including Wal-Mart stores.

Salba.
