Dear listmates,

The federal Bureau of Prisons has published (October 2012) Clinical Practice Guidelines covering prisoners with celiac disease, and developed a menu for prisoners on a medically necessary gluten-free diet. Federal prisoners I have corresponded with as part of my work tell me that a gluten-free diet is available, if limited. But none I have asked has known a fellow prisoner with celiac disease.  I am still pursing data via FOIA on the numbers of gluten-free meals served in federal prisons.

I am interested in writing an article for celiac and/or prisoner advocacy publications on the subject of gluten-free in prison. Because anecdotal reports of first-hand experience are important to tell the story, I am interested to correspond with a person with celiac disease who is also a current or former federal prisoner (or even state prisoner - although each state system is different). I promise full confidentiality. Because I do not expect to be paid if any article is eventually published, I cannot offer anything beyond limited correspondence in return.
