The Listowners are please to announce on our fifth anniversary that we
now have 3000 subscribers from these 42 known countries:

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bermuda, Bolivia, Brazil,
Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain,
Greece, Guatemala, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy,
Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland,
Portugal, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland,
Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Turks and Ciacos Islands, USA, Uruguay

Through this List and our specialized sub-Lists, we try to provide a
forum for discussion for those interested in celiac (coeliac)
disease, sprue, dermatitis herpetiformis, gluten intolerance, and wheat
allergy. Our specialized Lists are described below:

CELIAC-DIABETES... A list for those dealing with both Celiac Disease
and Diabetes. Gluten intolerance, along with Insulin Resistance,
Syndrome X and the various types of Diabetes are also included.

CEL-GPS...A restricted List devoted to improving the interaction between
support group leaders on common problems that are faced by celiacs
around the world.

CEL-KIDS...A List devoted to the unique problems of celiac children and
their families.

CEL-PRO...This restricted List is devoted to improving the exchange of
celiac-related information between medical professionals. Current
members include internationally-known celiac experts and local
physicians with an interest in celiac disease for their patients.

Please keep in mind when making posts to the List that many subjects
have been previously covered and the information is available in our
logfiles and/or in various reference files.

The home site for all of our reference material is at:

        http://www.enabling.org/ia/celiac/index.html

Interactive searches of the logfiles can also be performed. The address
is: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/celiac.html

An excellent set of reference files and the FAQ are available at:

        http://www.enabling.org/ia/celiac/basic.html

In order to reduce the volume of our mail we ask that posters collect
replies and summarize them back to the List. Therefore, there is no
need to send a message to the poster asking that they send you the
information. When you see a post that interests you, keep the message
in your mailbox for about a week; if you do not see a summary, then
send the poster a reminder to post a summary.

Please selectively quote all messages that are sent to the List or
another Listmember. To "selectively quote" means that you include
only the applicable part of a message that allows a person to follow
the topic that is being discussed. Many mail programs append the
complete text of a message at the end of a reply. This is an option
that you can change locally.

It is critical that you give details on why a product is or is not GF.
Because of different levels of sensitivities, each person needs to
verify all recommendations for products and not take the unchecked
words of another poster.

It is also important that you include your location in all posts about
products. The same brand name can have different ingredients around the
world.

All posts to the list must be in plain text format. This means no fancy
formatting as is seen in many mail programs. This is the reason why we
often see or "mime-encoded" sections in posts. Remember that many
people have only basic e-mail, so that fancy formatting comes into their
mailboxes looking like gibberish. (And you certainly don't want your
well-crafted prose to look like gibberish, now do you?)

The listowners look forward to continued growth on the CELIAC list.
Here's hoping that in another five years we'll be 6,000 strong!
