Hi

My daughter is autistic, which is why she is gluten/casein free. We have no
diagnosis of celiac, just mom's instinct!

She was born at 50% for both weight and length and continued at this until
we introduced baby cereals (First gluten exposure) at around 4 months. At
her 6 month checkup, we learned that she had dropped from 50% to around
5% (actually she dropped a little below that at one time), but since I'm also
small
no-one seemed too concerned as she kept growing at 5%.

At age three, we received the autism diagnosis and cut both gluten and casein
from her diet. Within three months, she had grown around 4" and gained 5lbs
in weight!

For some reason, DH (use your imagination on the D - it may or may not mean
"Dear" in this case) decided to re-introduce gluten in October of last year.
This
move on his part caused several weeks of pale, large, floating BMs. He
refused
to listen when I said this could be a sign of celiac disease and continued to
feed
her gluten. Her school eventually requested that we return to a
gluten/casein free
diet due to her worsening behaviors in the classroom.

Now he's decided to challenge the diet AGAIN!!! This time, each exposure to
gluten (two so far, four days apart) have caused really awful, runny, sour
smelling
BMs at least twice a day. I can already see she's lost weight. Does a gluten
bm smell sour? It's quite different from a "normal" bm smell.

I truly believe she (and I) have celiac disease. I've been mostly gf for two
months
now, and feel much better. I'm even losing weight, which I need to do! How
can
I stop my husband giving her gluten when I'm not around? Any damage would
surely have been healed, since she's been mainly gluten free for almost two
years,
and I understand it may not be picked up through biopsy, anyway.

I need to some advice to deal with a block-headed, but otherwise very
wonderful
husband!
