I previously requested gluten free information including restaurants, grocery
stores and any other helpful tips for travel in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  I
received several responses and appreciate all of the information.

The hands down winner and a must visit is Cafe Arugula located at 3110
Federal Highway, Lighthouse Point, 954-785-7732. You should call for
reservations.  I spoke with Diane.  Mention you are celiac and need a gluten
free dinner. They have gluten free pasta on hand and if you want special
bread, they need a day's notice.  They are open Tuesday through Sunday from
5:00 p.m. on (no lunches).

Fort Lauderdale has may stores and restaurants that cater to GF diets:
Restaurants including:  Hops, Roadhouse Grill, Outback Steakhouse, Burger King

Wild Oats has a big store there in Lauderdale.

Albertson's Grocery is in the area and they have GF selections.

Gluten friendly eateries at Sawgrass including Legal Seafood, and Cheesecake
Factory.

Sushi was recommended along with bringing your own gluten free soy sauce.

Boston Market was suggested.  Gluten free menu items (from Boston Market's
gluten free list September 2000) include:  steamed veggies, chicken (no gravy
and no dressing), string beans (NOT the green bean casserole), new potatoes,
corn, "fried" apples.  The corn bread has wheat flour in it.   (Avoid
the ham, sauces, gravies.)  Don't know about the cooked squash.

Other tips included:

I always find it helpful to simply go to a family restaurant with a diverse
menu and request that unseasoned, plain chicken or fish (maybe with a bit of
fresh lemon juice) be prepared for me under a broiler, if possible. A grill
can cause cross-contamination, unless it is a wood grill with plain
wood-grilled poultry or meat, nothing else, made on it.

Use only real butter, not margarine Bring own GF dressing.  TIP:  My
mother ordered me some individual salad dressing packets from one of the
gluten free mail order companies (I believe Gluten Free Pantry).  It's
Annies Naturals dressing and it is so convenient! I would recommend this
for anyone who travels.

chapters and chapter leaders.  They should be able to advise you.

Any restaurant with a highly varied family menu - such as plain broiled
chicken, fish that can be ordered plain and broiled, baked potatoes, plain
veggies, plain salad (no croutons) with wine vinegar and olive oil on the
side, etc.  I side order avocado, raw onions to put on my salad, and request
lemon wedges.

I am planning on eating lots of steak (plain) and fresh seafood.
