Welcome to the club....that first big oops is the worst
because by the time you reach it you (usually) have
finally remembered what it is like to feel human again.
I have only flubbed the diet twice (once my fault (the
phrase rice, flour does not translate into rice
flour...in your gut, but it does in your mind when you
ignore that comma), and once because I took a sip of
rootbeer at a microbrewery that was supposed to have
been Diet Coke). I truly don't remember feeling as
terrible when I was still eating gluten at every meal
as I did after each of my mistakes...I think that your
body just gets so used to being sick that you aren't
even able to determine the good days from the bad. THe
problem with getting a little bit of gluten after
you've been GF is that it serves as a reminder that our
bodies are much more sensitive that we ever thought
they were (this incidentaly is also the best part of
getting that first little bit of gluten after being
GF...you'll never forget how sick it made you and it
really serves as a great cheating deterrant). I don't
think that you go completly back to square one every
time you have an "oops", because think of that amount
in comparison to the amounts of gluten you were eating
before...now maybe if your "oops" came in the form of a
two week binge of bread, donuts, and cake you'd be in
some serious trouble...but I really don't think that
that one little bit will erase all the hard work you've
done. Your tummy may be really mad at you right now,
but trust me...it won't revolt like it did before after
one small dose. Always remember, it took you years to
do all that damage before, not an hour.

I hope all settles down in that tummy of yours, my
confidence in my ability to live GF took a serious blow
after my first accident, but I did learn some very
important things...1) NEVER EVER ride the subway the
day after an accident..all that rocking and an upset
tummy are not a good pairing (you can imagine what
happened, I'm sure). 2) DO NOT attempt to go to work
(or school) until you are sure that the storm has
quieted down, because not only is it difficult to
function properly when your gut is trying to secede
from the union but you will most definatly freak out
those you work with. 3) Unless you enjoy having your
friends and loved ones see you sprawled on the bathroom
floor in pain it is best not to invite company (some
things one should suffer through alone), nor should you
keep any previously scheduled dates. 4) When you begin
to feel sick...GO HOME IMMEDIATLY and put on a good
pair of fat pants, preferably of the sweatpant variety,
because it is only a matter of time before you get too
sick to attempt this feat and it hurts to bloat to
twice your normal size in jeans.

Okay...that was really long, sorry, but long email
short...just keep up the GF life and your body will be
more equipped to heal in a quick and speedy fashion.

Feel better soon!
