My husband has been diagnosed with Shingles. Lesions are on the forehead,
within the eye orbit and around the outer eye. The lids are edematous. He has
been prescribed medications that are routinely prescribed for shingles. None
of the doctors he has seen seem to be interested in ruling out dermatitis
herpetiformis.

As my husband is a celiac and adheres to a gluten-free diet we think it is
worth eliminating DH as a cause of his lesions, pain et al. He did have an
experience with a meal that obviously had some gluten in it a couple of weeks ago
but has recovered intestinally from that.

Could there be a relationship between his ingestion of gluten and these
facial lesions. The very term, dermatitis herpetiformis, suggests that the lesions
of DH and herpes zoster (shingles) resemble each other.

We would appreciate any information that list members have with this
condition. Also, what treatment is prescribed for this condition.

Thanks,
Betty Rosen
