The EPA is proposing to establish an exemption from the requirement of a
tolerance for residues of the biochemical pesticide corn gluten, also known
as corn gluten meal, when used as a herbicide in or on various food
commodities.

I realize that concerns with corn gluten are off the goals of the List but
I mention this issue for the following reasons:

The proposed rule gives a good example of how an FDA defined safe
ingredient can show up in a lot of places. It also shows how rules are put
into effect.

Instead of posting the proposed rule, I am making it available at the
following web site, http://www.isis.vt.edu/~plwarren/corngluten.html in
case anyone is interested in reviewing the thing.

I would also add that discussion of the message is off the List objectives.
I am making the information available as a potential teaching tool. It
also may be of some value to those who have problems with corn.
