Here is a reply I recieved that really answered my question. Thank you
to all that responded. I'm still trying to figure out wheather they can or
can't test for all gluten types, but I am happy to know that I can safely
enjoy my g.f. pancakes toppped with their s.f. pancake syrup.

I was concerned after reading your post to the List since I just
checked Smucker's last month and was told that
the products I checked were free of ALL gluten. After reading your
letter, I called them again. Apparently, the letter you received is a
new one that has just started going out in the past couple of
weeks. The guy I talked to said there were questions in the
company as to whether to include the comment about only being
able to test for wheat gluten in their email. He added that they've
been getting a LOT of calls about it and were reconsidering it. He
then assured me that the products are actually free of all wheat,
rye, oats, and barley gluten.

Thanks,
Yehudit
