List,

Below I included a few responses to my post about own blood therapy. I am
sure more will come in.

Currently I am seeing a homeopathic doctor in Recklinghausen, Germany. My
husband and I both have food and pollen allergies, and the doctor here
suggested "own blood therapy," since it has helped many of her patients.
From the treatment my husband received, blood is taken from an arm vein,
and then, in ten sessions beginning with .5 ml of blood up to 5ml, the
blood is reinjected to the thigh or buttux. Also available is
an "enriched" blood reinjection where the blood is treated with UV rays,
ozone therapy, and I am unsure about what else. From what I understand it
causes a sterile infection when reinjected that then mobilizes the immune
system and primes it up.

 My husband is halfway through his treatment and says it has definitely
helped him. It is nothing out of the ordinary here in homeopathic
practice, but I am not sure if it is in hospitals, etc. Many people feel
it helps them so much they get it done on a yearly basis, usually before
the pollen season. If one does an internet search for the German
translation of own blood therapy, "eigen blut therapie" there are many
responses. It is my feeling this is something popular in Europe, as I
checked out the phrase in a few different lanugages and all returned
responses. On a Dutch site it also explained that sometimes people are
injected not with their own blood, but with their own urine. (that raised
my eyebrow a bit!). But the blood therapy seems reasonable enough as long
as it is done in a sterile and controlled manner.

As I learn more about how it exactly works, find references in English, or
opt to do it myself I will update the List! It is not particularly
expensive here in Germany, and does not seem to pose much harm. I will
have further discussions with the doctor here about my immune system
before I seriously consider doing it. But as many people in Europe find
it helpful I am tempted to try it.

=====================

This is a rather old fashioned therapy and although not deemed reliable by
todays clinical standards, my husbands grandfather suffered from terrible
skin allergies in the 1940-1960s. In Queens, NY at that time, he had the
very same done to him and as family lore has it it did work. I would very
much like to know if you do do it, how well it worked for you. asked a
dermatologist about this procedure for my daughter who suffers from excema
(prior to celiac diagnosis) and she poo pood it. Let me know or plz
sumarize your results after procedure. Thanks.

I have heard of this before. I am a second year med student at U of
Cincinnati College

of Medicine (and I have Celiac's). An alternative medicine doctor I know
(Hal Blatman,

MD, in Cincinnati, OH) said he has done one before. It's called an
autolytic injection

(I think). While it sounds crazy, he said it worked for the woman he did
it on.  There

shouldn't be anything harmful in trying it... but is expensive? Does the
physician

have references as to how this works? I have been curious about this ever
since I

heard about it.

We have a Naturopath and we are holistic/homeopathic/organic to the max.
That said - what you are discussing is quackery! Plain and simple! Please
take your money and run for the nearest exit. My Naturopath damn near bust
a
gut laughing when I e-mailed her your letter.
=====================
What century is he talking about??? This sounds really kookie.
=====================
   Somehow this doesn't sound right. It would be the
same thing as a bruise in the muscle. Your immunities
would be matched to your immunities, that wouldn't cause
a reaction. If your histamine level in the blood is high,
you might get some hives over the site of the injection.
This doesn't expose you to your allergens. I just don't
understand how this could work.
=====================
In celiac disease, you already have an overactive immune system, so we are
not supposed

to stimulate our immune systems in any way! VERY dangerous!
