I've had several people ask about the GF status of wheat grass. This is my
experience.

I have a friend who swears that wheat grass is the best tonic on earth. She
says it makes her & her family feel better than any supplement or food
they've ever tried. I've also read in several sources that it's nutritional
value exceeds just about any food around. I've wanted to try it for several
years, but have been TOO chicken to risk it. But, I have buckets of whole
wheat grains stored in my garage (from my pre-GF days, of course) & it seems
a waste to throw them out.

So . . . yesterday, I bought a little container of wheat grass at the
produce market. I brought it home, cut off some & whizzed it in the blender
with some cold water & drank it down. It was mild, sweet & the color of
lime Koolade. I waited for a reaction to hit. . . nothing all day
yesterday nor today. I took another "dose" early this afternoon. Still no
reaction. I feel just fine. In fact, I actually feel perkier than my
usual, but believe it's too soon to credit the wheat grass for this.

I've read that wheat grass is GF, that only the seed contains gluten. I've
also been cautioned not to try commercial products that are made with wheat
grass because they may contain gluten due to the possibility of incorrect
harvesting. I've been told that the danger in commercially prepared wheat
grass has to do with cutting it too late. If the grass is cut before any
seed develops it definitely GF, but if it's harvested too late, it may
contain gluten. I don't know when "too late" is, but I now know for sure
that the six inch high wheat grass I consumed the last couple of days is GF.
