Sorry this summary is so late--Christmas took over. Before giving the
summary, I did go to the Gastroenterologist who diagnosed the CD quite
quickly (once I was sent to him). Next Monday, he is doing a pH probe to
detect acidic reflux. He said if this is the problem, left unattended
it could result in either asthma or chronic bronchitis. He is also
suspicious of my blood pressure medicine (acupril). I think he will work
hard at trying to find the problem so I will respond if he solves it.

I received 26 messages from the list regarding cough--18 of those
have/had the same or similar problem with a cough. Comments are listed
below from the 18 as well as others who had suggestions, etc.

>1 indicated a mother had the same problem and it was the blood pressure
medicine. Changed medicine and cough disappeared.

>2 suggestions eliminating milk/soy.

>1 shared an abstract regarding esophageal dysmotility.

>1 suggests as a way to deal with it--always carry something wrapped that can
be sucked on such as life savers, breath mints, cough drops or let water
trickle down slowly.

>1 found cough to be stomach acid from value not closing properly (her
sister's stomach acid resulted in asthma).

>1 suggested checking for sjogren's syndrome which this person has as well as
well as fibromyalgia and has the cough problem.

>1 thought hers was due to stress

>1 thought hers was allergy problems (milk products and corn)

>1 ended up being bronchitis (this person has exercise induced asthma).

>1 said herbs and "natural" remedies can be responsible--also medicine and
suggested using Physician's Desk Reference if you can't get the info on
medicine you are taking. Vasotec (blood pressure med) bothered her.

>1 has a bronchial asthma and symptom is a productive cough--she uses 2
inhalers (I wonder if her doctor checked for reflux).

>1 has spouse with sleep apnea and coughs--doctor says he might have a small
throat.

>1 had post nasal drip one winter--doctor diagnosed as allergy and gave
antihistamines and an inhaler--it worked.

THANK YOU ALL for your comments. I'm hoping that something was said that
might help those of you who also struggle with the cough. It's worth
insisting on some answers.
