Hi Everyone,
I was just wondering about the accuracy of the blood tests for food
allergies and celiac disease. I have been plagued with migraine headaches
after ingesting gluten (delayed reaction) for the past few years. I have
been to two different allergists and all of the skin tests and blood tests
have come back negative. Neither doctor will believe that my problem is
food related. All I know is that when I eat a gluten free diet my problems
go away.

My sinuses close up over one eye and within 24 hours I can't breathe on
one side of my nose and I start getting headaches which turn into migraines
and they take 3-4 days to get rid of. Pseudoephidrine is the only thing
that will clear it up and it is taking a higher milligram dosage everytime I
ingest gluten to make my sinus passage open up. ( I have also used steroid
nasal sprays which help a little but not that much) After taking enough
pseudoephidrine, water will drip from my nose and I will start to get
better. Pseudoephidrine plus being gluten free is the only way to do it
for me)

I tried the Atkins diet a few years ago and within 3 days all of my
allergies had disappeared. Originally I thought that I was allergic to
pollen or dust just like most people with allergies. The Atkins diet told me
that food was suspect. I tried the elimination diet which told me that wheat
was definitely a problem. I thought my problem was only wheat until I kept
having problems even without wheat and then one day after being wheat free
for a while I ate some carob chips that were sweetend with barley malt and
got one of the worst reactions I had ever had. That is when I suspected
gluten.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I have learned more about
hidden glutens from this site than from any other source. I need to know if
there are others out there with similar problems. It can be so frustrating
when no one will believe you and you guys seem to have dealt with it all.

Sincerely,
Susan
